Social Service workers had an open file against Khadijo Ali reported the Star Tribune but somehow she still had custody of her other children. Well, it should come as no surprise that one of her other children turned up at Unity Hospital in Fridley last Tuesday. Unfortunately, that 23 month old girl arrived at the hospital dead. Her offense? She walked in front of the television and Ali's boyfriend yelled for the girl, then slapped her when she came close enough, then shook her by the ribs, then by holding her face between his hands.

I know the Child Protection Dept is overworked and understaffed, but where were the relatives of this woman? She had one child taken away already, which they had to have known about. Why did another child have to die because of stressed, selfish and uncaring adults: both her parent, who watched her boyfriend hit her children and the Social Services system that allowed her to keep a vulnerable young child after already losing custody of another.
