Some idiot on a flight from L.A. to D.C. tried to open a door in flight, and was subdued by fellow passengers, in spite of patches on his military fatigues showing he was in the Special Forces and was also a jujitsu champion. (Maybe he got those eBay.) Air marshals took over from the civilians.
That a passenger went wacky on a flight is not remarkable. The man "became unruly" about three and a half hours into a five hour trip. What is remarkable is the fact that the pilot didn't immediately make an emergency landing, which is a common procedure. The United Flight proceeded on to Dulles and landed as planned.
In this "panic first, think later" culture, that is refreshing.
A CNN story said that "Airport police and FBI agents met the flight and were interviewing the passenger." My only question, were shrinks brought to counsel the other passengers, or did they go for burgers and/or beers to toast their courage? I hope the latter.
