In a report last month, India's Centre for Science and Environment found that both Pepsi and Coca-Cola contained dangerous levels of pesticides and other chemicals. A number of Indian states banned both drinks in schools and colleges, and the state of Kerala went so far as to ban the products outright in the entire state. Coke and Pepsi, of course, both claim that their beverages are completely safe for consumption. Through a brief court battle, the ban in Kerala was overturned, with both companies arguing that only the central government of India had the authority to level such a widescale ban. Kerala's government hopes to appeal the court's decision and get the ban reinstated.
Are they getting different Coke and Pepsi than us? I mean, I'm sure it's produced locally, but could the "secret formula" really have changed that much in it's transition to India? I've never felt unsafe while drinking a coke before, and I doubt I ever will. So what is this then? Anti-US posturing on a small level? Or just overzealous scientists who decided to come up with a medical reason why cola is bad for people?
